Guardian Program

Our guardian program ensures all breeding dogs live the pampered life they deserve with their own forever family.  Being a guardian family for a dog can be an excellent way to have a top quality dog at little cost for a family pet. Guardian families allow us to be exceptional breeders of Australian Labradoodles by allowing us to have multiple potential breeding dogs in our program that live in a family environment. We are thankful and appreciative for the role these families play in the future of the Australian Labradoodle breed.

We place the "pick of the litter" in its forever homes with select, local families and we retain breeding rights for a short amount of time. Breeding dogs are chosen for their temperament, coat and confirmation.

COST: Guardian puts down a $1000 deposit (refundable after the breeding agreement has been fulfilled) We pay for all breeding-related expenses, including health testing. The guardian family is responsible for all the routine costs of owning a dog (such as vaccinations, heart-worm preventative, and grooming and training). When the guardian dog's breeding career is over, four litters for females, the dog will be spayed/neutered. No purchase price.

REQUIREMENTS: There are certain requirements for providing a guardian home for one of our dogs. To be considered, Guardian families must:

  • have a fully fenced yard or take dog out on leash at all times

  • we prefer dog experience, but will work with families new to dog ownership.

  • train dog or take to obedience classes

  • ensure the puppy is well socialized

  • provide veterinary care when needed

  • feed dog same food we feed our own dogs and puppies

  • not leave dog alone for extended periods

  • not leave dog outside unattended

  • notify breeder when a female begins her heat cycle

  • must not allow a female around intact males during her cycle

  • must not allow a male to breed other females

  • be interviewed by the breeder

  • live within a 30 minute driving distance to Phoenix, AZ

  • be willing and able to bring dog to vet for testing and to drive to our home for breeding purposes.

  • We do ask that guardian families send pictures and updates from time to time!

Benefits:

  • Puppy is completely health tested by 12 months of age

  • You will get the pick of the litter at little no cost.

  • At about 12 months a decision is made whether to breed your puppy and if not bred, puppy is to be de-sexed and ownership transferred to you.

  • If puppy is bred, females are bred no more than 4 times and males are mostly used between the ages of a two to four years, but can be used up to 7 years.

  • Your puppy will an ambassador to our labradoodle program and you will be a part of helping to create wonderful pets and service dogs for people.

OVERVIEW :

Females: Females in guardian homes will have 3-4 litters for Welcome Home Doodles. The family must notify us at the first sign of her heat. We will need access to her for breeding and she is returned to guardian family until just before whelping time. At that time, she will stay in our home with her puppies until properly weaned. (approx. 6 weeks) Once her breeding career is over, she will be spayed and remain the forever pet of the guardian family.

Males: Males are usually retained for about 7 years, but do not need to leave their families for long periods. (But must be available on short notice) Once his breeding career is over, he will be neutered.

If you receive a guardian puppy we ask for updates and photos for our website. We want to watch our guardian puppies develop and we will occasionally need to have planned visits, so that the puppy is comfortable in our home. Since she will need to come here when it is time to have her puppies.
